Why I Write
When you’re an unknown author, it can be difficult to make sales. This can definitely make me feel like giving up at times.
Another blogger, Elle Griffin, recently put up a post called ‘No one buys books’, which you can read here. In it, she quoted statistics that both depress me and make me hopeful.
For a start, most books don’t even sell 1000 copies. According to publishers, 90% of books never sell more than 2000 copies and 50% sell fewer than a dozen copies.
Happily, none of my books are in the 50% bracket, so that’s a plus, and it’s nice to know that I’m not the only author who struggles with sales; even those with big publishers do. But at times like this, I wonder why I keep going.
Writing, Preparing, Finalising
March has been a big month. I have continued work on Father of the Horde, my WIP, and am now almost at the 25,000 word mark. I have finalised the typeset version of Keeper of the Archives with my publisher, with it scheduled for release in September.
I will also be attending Gold Coast Supanova on 13 and 14 April with my fellow authors, Jeanette O’Hagan and Adele Jones. You can find us at the Rendered Realms stand. We will also be at the FraserPop Festival in Maryborough on 13 and 14 July and are looking at some other events as well. Make sure to check my events page if you want to know more.
Getting ready for a great year
I’ve started booking events and getting ready to move forward as an author in 2023. June this year also sees the 10th anniversary of the release of my debut novel. I’ll have some special competitions and giveaways as that date comes closer, so watch this space. So far this year, I have finalised my next […]
Events are coming!
Things are opening up more in 2021 and I’m happy to say I’ll soon have some events happening. The first will be the Omega Writers Book Fair on 31st July. I’ll be taking part in a panel talking about book marketing; always a challenging subject! Watch this space for more details as the event draws […]
An Eventful Start
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, mainly because I’ve been so busy! It’s been an eventful start to the year, with many things going on. I enjoyed attending Gold Coast Supanova with my author friends Jeanette O’Hagan and Adele Jones in April. It was a lot of fun and I was able to wear […]
Busy with books
This is my first blog post of the year and the title should give you some idea why. The first two months of the year have been full of editing (both my works and others) and the next few months are full of events. The most exciting news is this. I have a short story […]
Help me find a crown
If everything goes well, Adele Jones, Jeanette O’Hagan and I will be attending Gold Coast Supanova in late April! 🙂 We had great fun when we went to ComicCon in September last year and enjoyed seeing everyone participating in cosplay and getting into the swing of it. We did our best to join in – […]
