Why I Write

When you’re an unknown author, it can be difficult to make sales. This can definitely make me feel like giving up at times.

Another blogger, Elle Griffin, recently put up a post called ‘No one buys books’, which you can read here. In it, she quoted statistics that both depress me and make me hopeful.

For a start, most books don’t even sell 1000 copies. According to publishers, 90% of books never sell more than 2000 copies and 50% sell fewer than a dozen copies.

Happily, none of my books are in the 50% bracket, so that’s a plus, and it’s nice to know that I’m not the only author who struggles with sales; even those with big publishers do. But at times like this, I wonder why I keep going.

Writing, Preparing, Finalising

March has been a big month. I have continued work on Father of the Horde, my WIP, and am now almost at the 25,000 word mark. I have finalised the typeset version of Keeper of the Archives with my publisher, with it scheduled for release in September.

I will also be attending Gold Coast Supanova on 13 and 14 April with my fellow authors, Jeanette O’Hagan and Adele Jones. You can find us at the Rendered Realms stand. We will also be at the FraserPop Festival in Maryborough on 13 and 14 July and are looking at some other events as well. Make sure to check my events page if you want to know more.

Another year over

And here we are again. It’s just about time to say goodbye to 2023. As I prepare for the Christmas season, I’m reflecting on the year that has just passed and what experiences I’ve had. I’ve had the joy of having another book accepted for publication. Keeper of the Archives should be released in July […]

Fabulous weekend

I had an amazing time at Gold Coast Supanova this past weekend, at the Rendered Realms stand with Adele Jones and Jeanette O’Hagan. It was busy pretty much from the get-go. It opened at 10.00 am, and I think someone said the convention carpark (which is HUGE) was full by 10.30 am. There were people […]

Getting ready for a great year

I’ve started booking events and getting ready to move forward as an author in 2023. June this year also sees the 10th anniversary of the release of my debut novel. I’ll have some special competitions and giveaways as that date comes closer, so watch this space. So far this year, I have finalised my next […]

Nearly 10 years

Next year, it will be 10 years since I became a published author. Yes, it’s hard to believe that The Heir (Verindon #1) was published nearly 10 years ago. Wow, how time does fly! And it’s still selling. I made some good sales at Brisbane Supanova a couple of weeks ago. It’s good to see […]

Oz ComicCon Homegrown

This is my first blog for the year, and I apologise for being so tardy. However, with Omicron hitting, some new health challenges and a new release coming up, I’ve been a bit swamped. But now I’m gearing up for the release of The Verindon Conspiracy and for my first event of the year, OzComicCon […]

2021 throws a curve ball

I think most of us hoped that 2021 would be an improvement on 2020 with its COVID craziness and all the problems associated with living in a pandemic. It didn’t help that 2020 was also a hard year for our family personally, so I was looking forward to a better 2021. Unfortunately, 2021 decided not […]

Gold Coast Supanova going ahead

If all things stay as they are, it looks like Supanova will be going ahead on the Gold Coast in April. I will be there at the Rendered Realms stand with Jeanette O’Hagan and Adele Jones on the 16th and 17th April, 2021. It will be our first event since March 2020, when COVID brought […]

An Eventful Start

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, mainly because I’ve been so busy! It’s been an eventful start to the year, with many things going on. I enjoyed attending Gold Coast Supanova with my author friends Jeanette O’Hagan and Adele Jones in April. It was a lot of fun and I was able to wear […]
