Once Confronted should be released on 1st October 2016. I’m hoping to have a cover to show you soon. 🙂
Now I have an official release date, I’m already starting to think about the book launch. They can be a lot of fun but also a lot of work to organise, especially when looking for something to keep the attendees entertained.
At my previous three book launches I’ve had jigsaw puzzles of a page in the novel or put up pictures of actors who I think could play the leading roles, not to mention asking people to write down what they thought would happen next (that worked well for book two in the Verindon trilogy, The Crown).
However, for Once Confronted, I was hoping for something a bit different. After all, it is not related to the Verindon trilogy at all, not to mention that it’s also a far more serious book, being about dealing with recovery from a traumatic event. So I thought I’d seek a bit of help. Have you ever been to/organised a book launch? What did you do? Do you think it’s something that could work for Once Confronted‘s launch? Any ideas will be considered, as I must confess, I’m at a blank at the moment.
So what do you think? Let me know in the comments at the bottom of the page.
I’m hoping to have my next book launch at a Cubing competition… Is there an event or similar you could be part of to launch your book?
My last launch was fairly low key, just some speeches & a book signing 🙂
Excuse my ignorance, but what’s Cubing? I’m guessing it was featured in your book in some way …
It’s solving the Rubik’s cube. Sorry, I forget that not everyone knows what it is!
Okay, that makes sense. 🙂
I just loved catching up with people I hadn’t seen for a long time at one – and with close friends at another! Talking over food and either tea and coffee or whatever you feel is right.
I loved the talks – one by several family members, another by Kim Wilkins, at these two recentish ones. One launch was very big and had tables for attendees to sit around and talk over coffee and nibbles.
OK – so there’s nothing new or exciting there – but I enjoyed them and these launched sold a lot of books.
I had thought that it just might be a talk-y kind of event but I wasn’t sure that would be enough.
I think it’s enough if you have enough attendees and a good speaker – &/or you read bits from your book.
Yes, Lynne – both my book launches were talk events with lots of food. The first was arranged by my publisher and held at a city hotel. The CEO of New Holland Publishers came and spoke, Ken (whose book I wrote) spoke, I spoke and then we had a guest (Professor of Legal Studies from Flinders University here in Adelaide) who spoke and officially launched the book. The second one was held in the community hall of my church and was essentially the same format – guest speaker was the Commissioner of Victim’s of Crime – and as I was doing an internship at my church I asked my mentor to officially launch the book. Had a great time at both events and sold 60 books at the first one and I think it was about 35 at the second. Great feedback so a good time was had by all who attended.
Congratulations on the release date of your book. Hope to get a copy at conference in October. All the best.
Yes, it will definitely be at the conference! 🙂
